Craving relaxing
September 10th, 2008

I was recently talking to someone whose friend teaches yoga to kids. She described something that made perfect sense to me. The kids are scheduled with back-to-back activities after school. The parents drop them off for yoga. [The parents themselves do not do yoga.] What happens in the class is the kids beg to do only the restorative relaxing poses as they are craving the quiet and the peace. We might want to look at how we are carving out time in our day for some relaxing.

Completing with heart
September 09th, 2008

I have a friend who is completing her time in this world. I was honored to hear she is using her remaining lucid time between morphine doses to write letters of completion to her friends. I was struck by what matters as our final completion here draws near - the completing with people and not the completing of things. I was wondering if I am doing enough completing with people day to day.

Writing down as you receive

Writing down as you receive

If we allow ourselves to write down what we hear inside in the moment we hear it, we keep our inner flow in motion. Often we think we will remember it later, and so we save it up until our head is so full, we have to dump it all out.

The emotions can work the same way. Instead of expressing our feelings, we often swallow them and store them until one day we explode for no apparent reason.

Be willing to stop when you hear something that needs attention and either write it down, text yourself a message, or add it to an action section on your palm handheld. And if feelings show up about anything, handle them with the person when they show up. Taking action will build your inner trust in yourself to follow through with what you are given, and it will keep your energy alive and active.

Learning new things
August 22nd, 2008

I talked to a woman today who recently purchased my book. She was so enthusiastic, and I was a bit taken aback. I realized that what I take for granted as habits in my life are brand new ideas for others. She was telling me how each page, although short in text, is filled with so much to reflect on and use. She mentioned the most valuable one for her is about writing things down. I forget the power and freedom that are available when my head is empty and my heart can move into the driver’s seat.

The gift of perspective
August 12th, 2008

Give yourself the gift of perspective by regularly reviewing your lists and actions—aka the weekly review, or as I sometimes like to call it, the “look and see.” Looking and seeing on a regular basis what is on our lists gives us an expanded perspective and a view from which we can then see clearly where to move next.
