Treat #100
: In Active Use
In Active Use
I remember years ago being in someone’s home and feeling like it was straight out of a designer studio. It was very beautiful and abundant and at the same time I felt empty in the middle of all the abundance.
I realized that what was missing from their home was their presence, their life, the feeling of aliveness and things being actively in motion and in use. In my own life I have probably gone to the other extreme as my home seems to be continually in motion.
This past week I really changed it up. If I didn't know better I would think I moved houses. I changed the function of all the rooms except of course the kitchen and bath. I am still walking into my bedroom to go to work as it used to be my office. It's creating great joy and laughter.
What inspired me was my friend who does Feng Shui reminding me that its all about flow and motion. I had a room that didn’t have a purpose. I was not actively using it. I called it my dressing room because it is small and has my clothes closet and a dresser in it. But when I honestly looked into the room I could see that it didn’t have any movement. It was spacious yet inactive.
Applying the flow and motion criteria to my favorite room in the house, I realized while I love the stillness, quiet, and peacefulness, it was not alive or used. The glass desk in this room was intended for writing but I have been spending more time looking at it vs. writing at it. This past weekend while I was walking in the mountains I pictured my glass desk as both my office desk and a place to write. I resisted at first as I was afraid I would disturb the peaceful essence and calm that I had created in that room. Not true. I came home and moved everything that night. The merging and integrating of my office, writing room and meditating space was genius. It remains still, quiet, and peaceful yet totally alive. The integration is palpable even to my guests. Two friends came to visit and each time we naturally landed in that room to hang out. A first. That says it all.
Using our stuff and getting it in motion frees up all kinds of energy and invites us to expand.
Where in your life are the opportunities for greater usage and movement .It could be physical spaces, it could be relationships, it could be stuff you are saving. After moving spaces I started going through photos and books and donated quite a bit. In the process I touched, opened and looked at a page in many of the books. I found all the information I looked at to be most useful. That is a fun process anytime.
And maybe what needs shifting is the inner spaces. Take a look at old thought patterns and ideas that are old and outdated and need to be revised so they can be put to use. Or maybe behaviors or habits that are outdated need a makeover.
It's important to get inside every nook and cranny in our lives and get involved with it. Kids do that quite beautifully. They explore and touch everything in their environment with great curiosity. Watch them for inspiration.
Bottom line is we need to be touching, opening and actively using our talents to keep us current and alive. Are you in active use?
Martha Invitations
1. Move things around maybe your office, your bedroom, or even your refrigerator. If you touch something you are not actively using donate it to put it back in circulation.
2. Notice what you are thinking and see if you need to update any recurring negative thoughts.
3. Get up and move your body. Keep it active. Use it to shift your energy and get yourself involved.
For my clients another invitation
Check to see that your systems are supporting you. Recently I have had former clients call and book 1-2 hour sessions with me to bring their systems current and back to active use. Is it time for a system refresher?
